The greeting cards are sold in sets of 4 with envelopes. Each card is unique, signed and numbered in a limited run of 60 prints. The cards are printed on a high quality French Paper Construction 100lb card stock in Nightshift Blue. This remote isolated scene conjures up the cold winter days at the ski lodge or cabin right after a fresh snowfall when skiing is at it’s best.
The design began with an initial sketch to simplify shape and form, then it is scanned and converted to a digital vector illustration. The different color layers are transferred to linoleum blocks and hand carved. Each sheet of card stock is cut into blanks by hand. The ink are mixed and applied to the carved blocks with a brayer and the blanks are pressed using a baren. The process is then repeated for each color.
French Paper Co. in Niles Michigan manufactures organic, recycled, and post-consumer waste paper, and is powered by fully renewable hydroelectric generators installed in 1922. French Construction paper is uncoated, chlorine free, acid free and made from recycled paper.
This year I put up a couple of bird feeders and a pair of cardinals moved into the apple tree next door and now there’s a multi-generational family. They became rather friendly and allowed me to photograph them and all their comings and goings.
